The Daytona Beach area is home to some of the most productive inshore fishing in Florida. From world-class Redfish flats to Snook-filled inlets, here are the spots I fish most often with my clients.
1. Mosquito Lagoon
The Mosquito Lagoon is widely considered one of the top Redfish and Speckled Trout fisheries in the entire world. Located just south of New Smyrna Beach, this shallow estuary is part of the Indian River Lagoon system. Sight-fishing for Redfish on the flats here is an experience every angler should have. Best months: October through March.
2. Ponce Inlet
Ponce Inlet is a year-round hotspot. The moving tide pushes baitfish through the inlet, attracting Snook, Redfish, Flounder, and Tarpon. The jetties hold Sheepshead and Black Drum in winter. This is one of my favorite spots for clients who want variety — you never know what's going to bite.
3. Halifax River
The Halifax River runs through the heart of Daytona Beach and is a productive year-round fishery. Docks, bridges, and grass flats hold Snook, Redfish, and Speckled Trout. The river is especially good for Snook in summer when they stack up under lights at night.
4. New Smyrna Beach Flats
The shallow grass flats around New Smyrna Beach are excellent for Redfish and Trout on a moving tide. These areas are best fished early morning with light tackle and live shrimp or soft plastics. Sight-casting to tailing Reds in skinny water is as exciting as fishing gets.
